WEA-PAC members endorse Democrat Mike Pellicciotti for re-election to the Washington House of Representatives, Position 1, in Legislative District 30. The 30th Legislative District includes the cities of Federal Way, Des Moines, Washington, Auburn, Washington, Algona, Pacific, Washington & Milton, as well as parts of unincorporated King County.

Mike Pellicciotti grew up in a family of educators and is the product of public schools. He was instilled with values that if you work hard and play by the rules, anything is possible. In high school, he worked as a busboy to help earn money for college. After college, Mike was a United States Fulbright Scholar, studying economic development. He earned scholarships for graduate school and law school, before becoming an attorney dedicated to public service.

In 2005, Mike began a career in public service when the late-King County Prosecuting Attorney Norm Maleng first appointed Mike to serve as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney. Over the last decade, Mike has worked to improve public safety in King County and throughout the 30th Legislative District.

In his free time, Mike enjoys spending time with his law school-sweetheart, Jaime, following Gonzaga Basketball, fishing, and enjoying the natural beauty that our area offers.

Representative Pellicciotti was a strong advocate for the 2018 WEA Unity Agenda in the House of Representatives.

We asked candidates: "If you had one minute to convince teachers and support staff to vote for you, what would you tell them?"

This is Mike's answer:

Rep. Pellicciotti on the Supreme Court steps with WEA members
Mike Pellicciotti meets with WEA members during the budget negotiations for the 2018 legislative session.

As the child of educators, I have had it instilled in me at an early age of the importance of education, and how it can transform lives.  Public education is the great equalizer and is what provides access to the American Dream.

Teachers are on the frontline to ensure this dream can be realized. If we take this vision of equal opportunity for success seriously -- in our nation and our state -- we must fully support these teachers in whom we expect so much.

As a freshman legislator, I have led efforts to provide greater access to education, fought to make sure our local teachers get a fair shake in state policies, and will continue to be a voice for the needs of students, teachers, and retired educators.

The above statement is taken from Mike Pellicciotti's 2018 WEA-PAC questionnaire.
